10th Anniversary News

For 10 years the Niskayuna Community Foundation has been focused on our mission to enhance and improve the quality of life in our community through organized philanthropy.  To achieve that goal we have awarded almost $200,000 in grants, awards and scholarships thanks to the generosity of our donors.

In honor of the 10th Anniversary, NCF is embarking on an exciting new endeavor to build our endowment fund to ensure that we have the resources to take care of the community for the long term.  An endowment fund will allow us to continue to strengthen the community for current and future generations in perpetuity.

You are invited to join The Niskayuna Community Foundation Legacy Society. The Niskayuna Community Foundation Legacy Society is a special group of men and women who believe in the mission and work of NCF.

If you have already made arrangements to remember NCF in your estate plans, we invite you to join The Niskayuna Community Foundation Legacy Society so we may acknowledge your thoughtfulness and generosity.  Planned gifts provide the resources that create extraordinary opportunities and preserve our future.  Our programs depend upon your goodwill. To that end, there are a myriad of easy giving options from which you can choose-from naming NCF as a beneficiary in your will, to a more complex trust arrangement.

Please note the creative giving strategies-strategies that enhance you and your family’s well being, as well as ensure the future for NCF.  For further information please call Cindy Phillippe at 518-935-7899.

BEQUESTS

You can provide now for a future gift by including a bequest provision in your will or revocable trust.  This permits you to retain all your assets during your lifetime and/or the lifetime of your spouse.  Designations may be for a percent of your estate or for the remainder of your estate after you have taken care of your family or for a specific designated amount.

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIES

When you transfer cash or securities of more than $10,000 to the Niskayuna Community Foundation of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region, the annuity would guarantee you a fixed stream of income for life.  The income would flow to you (and to your spouse, if you desire), after which the remaining principal of the annuity becomes a gift to NCF Endowment Fund.  This provides a current income tax savings and possible capital gains savings.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS

A gift of cash, securities or other appreciated property can provide income to you or your beneficiaries for life, or a term of years.  Thereafter, the trust principal will go to the NCF Endowment Fund.  Donor receives an immediate income tax deduction and pays no upfront capital gains tax on any donation of appreciated assets.

CHARITABLE LEAD TRUSTS

A Charitable Lead Trust can be appropriate if you have ample income now, but desire to retain ownership of the trust principal to meet future financial goals for your family.  Income will be directed to the NCF Endowment Fund for the specific term of the trust, after which time the principal will return to you or designated survivors upon death of the last beneficiary.

LIFE INSURANCE

When the added protection of an insurance policy is no longer needed, transferring the policy’s ownership to the NCF Endowment Fund can result in tax benefit for you and a generous gift for NCF.  Naming NCF beneficiary of such policy builds our future financial strength.

RETIREMENT FUNDS

For those who may have significant retirement plan assets, potential estate and income taxes on any part of those assets that remain can be avoided by naming the NCF Endowment Fund the beneficiary of any unused plan assets.  This could equate to as much as an 85% tax savings.
