2024 Grant Recipients
  • Niskayuna High School Unified Bocce Courts: $3,000 To construct 3 bocce ball courts to be used by the Niskayuna/Schenectady Unified Bocce Team, High School Bocce Club, and the public.
  • Niskayuna-Schenectady Girls Wrestling Booster Club: $3,000 To purchase practice equipment for the newly formed Niskayuna/Schenectady Girls Wrestling Team.
  • Albany Barn Inc.: $2,500 To provide hands-on artistic programs for Niskayuna residents at the Town of Niskayuna Senior Center and Farmers Market.
  • Niskayuna Lacrosse Club: $2,000 To help purchase new lacrosse goals for the Niskayuna Lacrosse Club whose program includes boys & girls from pre-K through high school.

  • Niskayuna Art Friends: $2,000 To support the printing and installation of an art mural at Niskayuna High School. The mural was created by NHS students and highlights culturally-diverse artists in history.
  • Niskayuna Rowing Inc.: $1,300 To help purchase rowing equipment for Niskayuna Rowing.
  • Town of Niskayuna: $2,200 To help purchase benches for the new splash pad at River Road Park.
  • Schenectady Curling Club: $1,500 To replace 22 chairs in their curling lounge where members and guests meet and socialize after curling.
  • Nisky NOW, Inc.: $2,000 To help fund breakfasts/lunches for Niskayuna students in need for the summer months.
  • Niskayuna High School PTO: $800 To provide funds for the Niskayuna After Prom Party, keeping students in a safe environment.
  • Niskayuna Friends of Music: $2,000 To help fund “Schubertiade”, a gathering featuring Schubert’s music and literary works of the time, at MiSci. Students from various NHS departments participated.
  • Concerned for the Hungry: $1,000 To provide Thanksgiving food baskets for Niskayuna families in need.
  • Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York: $1,000 To provide transportation for Niskayuna children to summer scout camp.
  • Operation at-Ease Therapy Dog Program: $1,000 To provide funds for a Therapy Dog Program for Niskayuna firefighters and police officers.
  • Regional Food Bank of NENY: $1,000 To help fund the Senior Food Delivery Program which provides free monthly groceries to residents of low-income senior housing sites including the B’nai B’rith House in Niskayuna.
  • Classic Theater Guild: $815 To purchase lighting and sound equipment for the Classic Theater Guild located at the Congregation Beth Israel in Niskayuna.
  • Mohawk Land Conservancy: $500 To help fund a Nature Bus that Schenectady/Niskayuna residents can take to local nature preserves and natural areas to ensure equitable access to nature.
  • Niskayuna National Night Out: $300 To support Niskayuna’s first National Night Out, an initiative that promotes police-community relations and neighborhood camaraderie.
  • Cornell Cooperative Extension: $1480 To fund a pilot food composting program at Craig Elementary School to reduce food waste sent to landfills from the school’s cafeteria. 

2023 Grant Recipients
  • Grand Boulevard Fire Company: $3,000 To purchase and install smoke alarms and combination smoke/carbon dioxide alarms for seniors and residents in need within Niskayuna Fire District 1.
  • Niskayuna Soccer Club, Inc.: $2,300 To purchase 2 full-sized soccer goals. 
  • Concerned for the Hungry: $2,000 To provide Thanksgiving food baskets for Niskayuna families in need. 
  • Niskayuna Baseball, Ltd.: $2,400 To replace old, unsafe benches in Niskayuna’s baseball dugouts. 
  • Town of Niskayuna: $5,000 To help fund the purchase of defibrillators and covers to be located at Niskayuna Town Parks. 
  • Schenectady Museum (MiSci): $2,500 To replace and upgrade the technology associated with the Suits-Bueche Planetarium at MiSci which hosts numerous Niskayuna school groups and families. 
  • Double H – Hole in the Wall Ranch: $2,100 To sponsor Niskayuna children with serious illnesses for a week at summer camp in the Adirondacks. 
  • Girls on the Run Capital Region: $1,000 To develop Girls on the Run programs for at least two sites in Niskayuna for up to forty 3rd-8th grade girls through Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. 
  • Capital Region Classical Inc: $2,500 To support the performance of classical artist, Julia Bullock, an internationally-known soprano at Union College. 
  • Albany Barn, Inc.: $2,000 To provide hands-on artistic programs for Niskayuna residents at the Town of Niskayuna Senior Center and the Niskayuna Farmers Market. 
  • NCSD – High School: $3,000 To purchase a minimum of 15 Adirondack-style chairs for use in the NHS garden and for outdoor class space. 
  • Things of My Very Own: $2000 To provide basic necessities and counseling services to Niskayuna parents and families in emergency crisis situations. 
  • Girls, Inc: $2,000 To help fund a 4-week STEM-focused summer program for Niskayuna girls entering 8th grade at UAlbany campus. 
  • Niskayuna Community Transition Program: $1,000 To support a work, life, and community-based skills program at Niskayuna schools for special-education students aged 16-21. 
  • Niskayuna High School PTO: $800 To provide funds for the Niskayuna After Prom Party, keeping students in a safe environment. 
  • Hillside Elementary School: $1,000 To provide students with a sensory walk, an interactive walkway that supports students with sensory processing issues and promotes the development of motor skills, balance, and spatial awareness skills in all children.  
 
2022 Grant Recipients

  • ​Things of My Very Own: $3,700 To provide intensive case management and services for Niskayuna children and families in the Family Crisis Recovery Initiative program. 
  • Jewish Community Center of Schenectady: $3,000 To help fund purchase of an upgraded ID badge printer for enhanced facility security.    
  • Regional Food Bank of NENY $3259: To provide and deliver fresh, nutritious, free food to low-income Niskayuna seniors. 
  • Niskayuna Special Education Parent Teacher Association $3000: To provide funding to create a district-wide recognition and celebration of National Special Education Day by developing student activities and an information toolkit for teachers and caregivers to foster inclusion and acceptance of classmates with special needs. 
  • Town of Niskayuna: $4,000 To help fund the creation of a small dog park within the existing dog park. 
  • Niskayuna Girls Softball League $5000: To help fund a fencing project to create an additional softball field at River Road Park. 
  • Concerned for the Hungry: $2,000 To provide Thanksgiving food baskets for Niskayuna families in need. 
  • Safe, Inc. of Schenectady: $2,000 To provide food, shelter, counseling, and case management for homeless Niskayuna youth at Safe House emergency shelter. 
  • Glencliff Elementary School PTO $5000: To help fund the purchase and installation of a pavilion for community and fundraising events, outdoor classes, school social events, and studying. 
  • Craig Elementary School PTO $2500: To fund the purchase of 250 new book bags for the 1000 Book Club for preschoolers through first grade. 
  • Niskayuna Soccer Club $1500: To purchase equipment for skill development for Niskayuna players and teams. 
  • Niskayuna High School PTO Junior After Prom $1500: To fund the photo booth and karaoke at the After Prom for the NHS Class of 2023. 
  • Town of Niskayuna: $1,230 To provide the Police Department with equipment to convert existing speed feedback signs to portable units for more effective use. 
  • Community Transition Program at NCSD: $1,000 To support a work, life and community-based skills program at the Niskayuna Central School District for disabled students aged 16-21. 
  • Girl Scouts of Northeastern NY $1000: Provide transportation for Niskayuna girls attending summer day camp. 
  • Nisky NOW, Inc. - $750 To purchase a freezer for the weekend nutrition program for food insecure Niskayuna families.

  • Niskayuna Soccer Club, Inc:  $2,500 To support the purchase of backstop nets and team benches for the Zenner Road field.   
  • Double H Hole in the Woods Ranch, Inc: $2,100 To sponsor a Niskayuna child with a serious illness for a week at summer camp in the Adirondacks. 
  • Niskayuna Lacrosse Club, Inc.: $5,000 To support replacement of existing rink at Blatnick Park with a modern rink system as part of a phased approach to eventually create a new dedicated lacrosse facility. 
  • Northeastern Association of the Blind: $675 To provide vision screening for preschool children in Niskayuna. 
  • Girl Scouts of Northeastern NY: $1,000 Provide transportation for 23 Niskayuna girls attending summer day Camp Is-Sho-Da. 
  • Niskayuna High School PTO: $1,815 To purchase custom “Class of 2021” face masks for high school seniors for a safe graduation ceremony. 
  • Conservation Advisory Council, Town of Niskayuna: $2,000 To provide seed funding for a project to develop a Natural Resources Inventory of the town’s natural and historical resources. Phase I includes hiring a consultant for training and creation of a pilot.   
  • Community Transition Program at NCSD: $1,000 To support a work, life, and community-based skills program at the Niskayuna Central School District for developmentally disabled students aged 12-21. 
  • Town of Niskayuna: $873 To purchase a bike repair stand for use along the bike path at Lions Park.
2020 Grant Recipients​

  • Schenectady Foundation, Rebuilding Families Fund: $10,000 To provide families in Schenectady County, including those in Niskayuna, impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with food, supplies, and direct assistance. 
  • Things of My Very Own: $2,000 To provide immediate support for Niskayuna children and families in crisis whose needs are made more urgent by the pandemic. 
  • Ellis Medicine: $2,000 To provide meals for frontline hospital workers to express gratitude for their selfless efforts during the pandemic. 
  • Niskayuna High School PTO: $1,800 To purchase custom “Class of 2020” face masks for high school seniors for a safe graduation ceremony. 
 
Traditional Grant Recipents:

  • Family and Child Services of Schenectady: $3,750 To provide personal care and in-home services for low income/long term care Niskayuna residents who often lack resources and family support. 
  • Jewish Community Center of Schenectady: $3,000 To help build a new inclusive playground for children that provides equipment for kids with special needs.  
  • Joan Nicole Prince Home: $3,000 To support operational expenses for providing free, end-of-life care for terminally-ill patients in a home-like setting, and support services for their families. 
  • Niskayuna Fire -- Grand Boulevard Fire Company: $2,500 To purchase equipment and supplies for public outreach and community education for fire prevention, and CPR, AED and First Aid training. 
  • Niskayuna Neighbors Network: $2,000 To purchase technology to support start-up volunteer organization that provides services that allow Niskayuna seniors to age in place in their homes and remain socially engaged.  
  • Safe, Inc. of Schenectady: $2,000 To provide food, shelter, counseling, and case management for exploited, at-risk, homeless, and runaway Niskayuna youth, including a work and life skills program. 
  • Things of My Very Own: $2,000 To provide intensive case and project management for Niskayuna families in crisis impacted by mental health issues. 
  • Town of Niskayuna: $4,500 (two projects) To refurbish two existing bocce courts at Aqueduct Park to promote exercise and health for seniors and the public.  To purchase a movie projector and screen to be used for outdoor movie events for all residents to enjoy. 
  • Umbrella of the Capital District:  $3,000 To provide free home safety inspections and installations of smoke detectors for senior and disabled Niskayuna residents.​​

2019 Grant Recipients

  • American Red Cross of NENY: $1100 to support the Home Fire Preparedness Program which will partner with the Niskayuna Fire Department to install new smoke alarms in Niskayuna homes with focus on seniors, lower income and disabled residents
  • Bus Stop, Inc: $2000 to provide funding toward a new Bus Stop Club site in Niskayuna which will offer a support program for children who have a sibling with either special needs or a chronic illness
  • Concerned for the Hungry: $1800 to fund the cost of Thanksgiving food baskets for Niskayuna families
  • Double H Hole in the Woods Ranch, Inc: $2100 to sponsor Niskayuna children with serious illness for a week at summer camp in the Adirondacks
  • Family and Child Services of Schenectady:  $2500 to provide services for new low-income Niskayuna residents in the Homemaker Program
  • Girls Inc: $2500 to provide support for approximately 80 to 100 Niskayuna Middle School girls to attend a summit for STEM studies and careers in 2019 at the HVCC campus
  • Glencliff Elementary School: $2000 to  provide funds to create a Maker Space which is an area where students can gather to create, invent, explore and discover by using and working with tools and materials
  • National Interscholastic Cycling Association:– $1000 to  provide support for the Niskayuna School Mountain Biking Club to get more students involved and better equipped and to offer additional training
  • Niskayuna Central School District: $1000 to  provide support for the Community and Work Skills Program for students with disabilities
  • Niskayuna High School PTO: $1000 to provide funds for rental of facility for Junior After Prom Party, keeping students in a safe environment
  • Niskayuna Rowing Inc, dba Friends of Niskayuna Rowing: $7500 to provide funds to assist in purchasing and replacing rowing boats which were destroyed in a
    violent storm in late July, 2019.
  • Niskayuna Soccer Club: $1000 to fund the purchase of new corner flags for all soccer fields for its annual Soccer Tournament hosted in June
  • Nisky NOW, Inc: $1000 to  provide funding for the weekend nutrition program for Niskayuna families
  • Schenectady Curling Club: $3000 to provide support toward upgrading the refrigeration system which will help continue its programs serving local residents and youth and also drawing many out of town visitors each year
  • Schenectady Inner City Ministry (SICM): $999 To provide support for SICM’s Emergency Food Program – Health Food Initiative for individuals who reside in the Town of Niskayuna
  • Special Olympics NY:  $2500 to provide funds to support expansion of local training programs for approximately 250 children and adult athletes with intellectual disabilities who live in the Niskayuna community
  • YWCA of Schenectady: $3000 to fund programs and services provided to victims of domestic violence who are residents of the Town of Niskayuna

  • Best Buddies – $500 to provide funding to help match students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in one-to-one friendships with their non-disabled peers in Niskayuna Schools
  • Concerned for the Hungry – $2,000 to fund the cost of Thanksgiving food baskets for Niskayuna families
  • Cornell Cooperative Extension (Roots and Wisdom) – $1,000 to provide funding to sponsor two Niskayuna youth to work for six weeks during the summer as part of the Roots and Wisdom Summer Growing Program
  • Craig Elementary School – $3,300 to provide funding for the School’s blacktop play space, including paint/application of blacktop play space games, and installation of new games (including an adjustable basketball hoop system)
  • Family and Child Services of Schenectady, Inc. – $2,500 to provide funds to help pay for in-home services for seniors and other individuals with mental and physical disabilities
  • Girls Incorporated of the Greater Capital Region – $1,000 to provide funding for a one-day forum for over 100 Niskayuna girls to attend a STEM program
  • MiSci – $5,000 to provide partial funding to defray the cost of Challenger Learning Center missions for twelve sections of sixth grade students attending Niskayuna Middle Schools.
  • Niskayuna Boosters Club – $1,000 to partially fund the purchase of new fitness equipment for the Niskayuna Fitness Center located at the Niskayuna High School
  • Niskayuna Central School District – Weekend Back Pack Program – $1,000 to provide funding for children and families who on an emergency basis, for various reasons, are unable to provide food and nourishment to their children and/or family
  • Niskayuna Central School District 2015 Holiday Family Support – $500 to assist in providing funds to Niskayuna families who for various reasons are unable to financially provide adequate food and clothing for their family needs
  • Niskayuna Central School District Office of Student Support Services – $500 to be used to provide emergency holiday assistance to Niskayuna School District families in need; funds to be used for winter outerwear for children and food assistance
  • Niskayuna Community Action Program (N-CAP) – $2,500 to assist in funding costs associated with conducting study of the mental health needs of the residents of the Town and the Niskayuna School District; the motivation for implementing this study as the result of multiple suicides occurring among the Niskayuna adult community in recent times
  • Niskayuna High School PTO – $1,000 to cover Proctor’s rental costs for a safe after prom party
  • Niskayuna High School Rocketry Club – $1,000 to provide funds for materials to participate in a national competition known as Team America Rocketry Challenge
  • Niskayuna High School Work and Life Skills Program – $500 to provide funds to help defray the costs of certain program activities and supplies; the program serves students at the Niskayuna High School and is run by teachers who provide job coaching and life skills training
  • Niskayuna Soccer Club – $1,000 to provide funding for the purchase of equipment for the Niskayuna Soccer Program
  • Niskayuna Town Playground Camp – $1,000 to provide partial funding to offset the additional staff costs needed to serve special needs children in Town summer playground camps
  • Schenectady Symphony Orchestra – $750 to provide funds to a featured musician and former Niskayuna High School graduate to perform at a Schenectady Symphony Orchestra concert to be attended by Niskayuna High School students and families
  • Van Antwerp Middle School – $1,900 to partially fund the cost of purchasing a heavy duty floor covering for the gym floor for use during assemblies and non-athletic school events

2014 Grant Recipients

  • Albany Symphony Orchestra – $1,500 to support Niskayuna High School’s music studio with two of Albany Symphony’s season-long composers in residence
  • Girls Incorporated of the Capital Region – $1,500 to provide Niskayuna middle school girls the opportunity to participate in the Girls’ Summit, an all-day STEM (science, technology, math and engineering)-based forum for and about girls
  • Girls on the Run Capital Region, Inc. – $2,000 to support two seasons of Girls on the Run programs at two Niskayuna schools
  • Music Mobile, Inc. – $1,000 to support free and accessible “Learning Through Music” sessions featuring group singing, hands-on educational activities, and community building experiences for low and moderate income children
  • Niskayuna Baseball – $1,000 to support the hosting of two local tournaments.
  • Niskayuna High School – $1,000 to the Robotics Club to pay for robot kit parts and software upgrades
  • Scotia-Glenville Children’s Museum – $1,000 to improve the Museum’s traveling exhibits through repair, replacement and enhancement of artifacts and other interactive resources

  • Birchwood PTO - $2,500 to help pay for the restoration of the Birchwood Nature Park
  • Class of 2014 After Prom - $750 to cover Proctor’s rental costs for a safe after prom party
  • Friends of Niskayuna Rowing - $850 to help pay for radios or flotation devices to support safety standards
  • Glencliff PTO - $2,500 to support the restoration of the nature trails and help create an area for environmental studies
  • Haven - $1,650 to help provide bereavement support services to Niskayuna residents
  • Hillside PTO - $1000 to purchase picnic tables for the Hillside playground, which is also used extensively by the community and by the Town summer camp program
  • Iroquois Middle School - $750 to help pay for 30 laptop computers for interdisciplinary writing projects

  • Challenger Learning Center of the Greater Capital Region, Inc.: $1,050 to help off-set the capital costs of acquiring and installing custom-built state of art space simulators and mission control equipment

  • Van Antwerp Middle School: $400 to underwrite a program for Niskayuna youth to help the Double “H” Hole in the Woods Camp
  • WIRO-Iroquois Middle School: $3,000 to purchase new equipment to help keep this student- run television station operating
  • Young Musicians Forum: $1,600 to provide funding for two concerts, offering an opportunity for young professional musicians to perform in public as well as providing concerts for Niskayuna residents

  • Environmental Clearinghouse of Schenectady, Inc.: $2,500 to be used for the construction of a new educational nature trail along the Mohawk River
  • Friends of Niskayuna Crew Club: $3,500 to be used toward the costs to replace the existing docks at the Aqueduct Park
  • Niskayuna Branch of the Schenectady County Public Library: $1,200 to be used for the funding of an adult and family program series
  • Niskayuna Community Action Program (NCAP): $1,600 to be used for operating expenses for the President’s Student Service Challenge Program, a national program which encourages and recognizes community service by youth and adults
  • Niskayuna Friends of Forensics: $1,100 to be used for the creation of a new after-school speech and debate program for both Iroquois and Van Antwerp middle schools
